The research group revolves around the sustainable use of resources from a comprehensive and multidisciplinary perspective. It aims to respond to the challenge of optimal utilization of natural resources and urban, industrial and mining waste. This comprehensive solution requires different fields of action. The search for and treatment of resources is investigated bearing in mind that these are limited and, therefore, their use must be maximized, while producing the minimum of final waste. This is in accordance with the current trends, promoted by the European Union, of Zero Waste and Circular Economy. The development of control systems, which entails the so-called intelligent industry, will be essential to achieve this goal.

The main objective of the Research Group in Science and Technology of Sustainability (CITES) is the generation of the technical and conceptual tools necessary to help transform our society towards sustainability. The Group addresses the main challenges of the sustainable development of current eco-socio-economic systems, in sub-lines of research perfectly identifiable with the Objectius de Desenvolupament Sostenible(ODS) promoted by the United Nations, with holistic and transdisciplinary approaches. The group's research areas are: Education for sustainability, climate change, urban sustainability and green infrastructure, industrial innovation, sustainable design and circular economy.

The research group for the biological treatment of gaseous pollutants and odors at the UPC has in recent years become a point of reference in terms of the application of biological techniques to solve a wide range of environmental problems. Thus, the group already has extensive experience in the use of biofilters for the treatment of different types of organic and inorganic gaseous pollutants as well as in the characterization of these devices both from a theoretical point of view (advanced modeling using CFD techniques ) as practical (design and construction of pilot plants, respirometric techniques, monitoring of biofilms using ad hoc designed microsensors, among others).

The aim of the group is to develop research activities in the field of communication circuits and systems. This group addresses the analysis and design of circuits in their aspects: linear, non-linear, variant, invariant and switched with concentrated or distributed parameters using conventional or specially developed tools. Stability and bifurcation studies are also carried out in these circuits. In a particularly significant way, the group develops low-consumption techniques for radio communication receivers with conventional, wide-spectrum and UWB modulations and designs communication systems on this basis, with an emphasis on sensor networks.

The EXPLORATORY of Natural Resources is a project whose objective, first of all, is to encourage scientific and technical vocations among young pre-university students, making university research known to teachers and secondary school students in particular, and to society Generally. The activities that take place have as their backbone the utilization of nature's resources, in order to demonstrate that they are the foundation of everything that surrounds us in our daily lives. "Explore" means discovering and experimenting, which are two fundamental features of the activities carried out by the EXPLORATORY, always complemented by previous theoretical foundations. The teaching/learning singularity that is applied consists of carrying out the actions on the ground itself, in an environment different from that of the classrooms and in a totally interdisciplinary way. The methodology used is based on the STEAM method.
