Specific Research Centers

Person in charge: F. Xavier Moncunill

It is a Specific Research Center (CER) that belongs to the TECNIO network of the Generalitat de Catalunya and is made up of members from the different sections and areas that constitute EMIT.

The CER's research is aligned with the new paradigm of the use of natural resources in the context of the circular economy. To achieve these goals, the researchers who make up the CER have advanced knowledge in different aspects such as the location and characterization of mineral deposits, the efficient use of these resources, the use of enabling technologies such as biotechnology for the use of all types of resources (mineral, industrial, and urban), and the application of advanced monitoring and data processing systems to guarantee an efficient, sustainable, and smart use of natural resources.

The Specific Research Center (CER) in Supervision, Safety and Automatic Control (CS2AC-UPC) is a multidisciplinary group of professors from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) - Barcelona Tech - and researchers from the Spanish National Research Council at the Institute of Robotics and Industrial Informatics (CSIC-UPC) dedicated to the wide world of automatic control and systems supervision.

The emergence of new technologies (5G, IoT, Network and Service Virtualization, Artificial Intelligence and Augmented Reality, Machine Learning, Smart Cities, etc.) poses new challenges that require larger research structures than those that have traditionally operated until now. CCABA has evolved into a structure that can group together in a single CER researchers from different UPC research groups in the various technologies being developed under the generic name of Next Generation of Communications Networks and Services (NGNS).
