(FIB) Bachelor’s degree in Informatics Engineering
The bachelor’s degree in Informatics Engineering, coordinated by the Barcelona School of Informatics, is an official bachelor’s degree that provides the knowledge and skills needed for a career in the field of informatics engineering.
The Department of Service and Information System Engineering coordinates two of the five specialisations offered in this degree: Software Engineering and Information Systems. For the specialisation in Software Engineering, the Department teaches the six compulsory subjects on the course and two of the six optional subjects. For the specialisation in Information Systems, it teaches four of the six compulsory subjects and one of the six optional subjects.
The Department also teaches two of the compulsory subjects that provide the required fundamental knowledge of informatics engineering.

Specialisation in Software Engineering
In this specialisation students learn to construct reliable, efficient software systems that meet specific customer requirements, manage project teams and resources, and direct project phases from the definition of customer needs to system construction and implementation. Specifically, students learn to:
- Develop and maintain reliable and efficient services and software systems that meet users’ requirements and analyse their performance
- Assess customer needs and determine the software requirements in each case.
- Solve integration problems using the approaches, standards and technologies available.
- Identify and analyse problems and design, develop, implement, verify and document software solutions.
- Identify, evaluate and manage the associated risks that may arise.
- Design suitable solutions for one or more areas of implementation, using software engineering methods that integrate ethical, social, legal and economic considerations.

Specialisation in Information Systems
The specialisation in Information Systems provides students with the knowledge and skills to understand and improve organisational processes through the innovative use of information technology. Students will learn to analyse the information system requirements of a specific organisation, design the appropriate business architecture and identify and evaluate alternative solutions.
The subjects for this specialisation are taught by four different departments: (1) the Department of Service Engineering and Information Systems; (2) the Department of Management; (3) the Department of Statistics and Operations Research; and (4) the Department of Software. This broad disciplinary base ensures that students have a range of career options upon graduation, and one of the most common graduate profiles is that of information systems specialist. The skills developed in this specialisation will enable students to undertake tasks such as those described below:

- Identify and structure the information required by specific healthcare professionals at each stage in a medical test procedure.
- Optimise the order of appearance of advertisements in a search engine for specific user profiles.
