Elective credits recognition

Introduction

The current regulatory framework, RD 861/2012, that modifies the management RD 1393/2007 of official university education, foresee the possibility of academic recognition in credits by the participation in cultural, sport, of studies representation, solidarity and cooperation university activities. Academic Regulation of Degree and Master Studies (NAGRAM) collect this possibility en the field 4.1 Credit Recognition. General criteria whose deployment are detailed in the agreement of the Governing Council that regulates and quantifies the activities that will allow this kind of recognition in Degree Studies.

Likewise, it's established in "Verification Memorie of the title Degree in Architecture Studies by the Universidad Politecnica de Cataluña" "Memoria de verificación del título de Grado en Estudios de Arquitectura por la Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña" that students who so certified may obtain recognition of credits for business practices and for additional recognition of mobility.

This regulation sets out additional criteria for such regulation for students from Degree in Architecture Studies (plan 2014).

 

General criteria

This regulation is entirely based in:

  1. The agreement num. 171/2012, Dated on November 5th, 2012, of governing council about the actualization of the regulation of the sport, cultural, of studies representation, solidarity and cooperation activities recognition in the plans of  degree in UPC, modified and approved lately in the agreement 145/2013 by the governing council on July 19th, 2013.
  2. The point 4.1.4 credit recognition by work and professional experience of NAGRAM in terms of credit recognition by internships companies.
  3. Regulation of external academic practice of Universidad Politecnica de Cataluña, agreement num 74/2012, dated on May 2nd, 2012, of governing council.

Specific criteria

Credits recognition only will be granted by the concepts established and described in the general regulation previously mentioned. Once assigned the maximum of total credits foresaw in the study plan will not grant any credit even though for that concept there is a higher amount of approved credit. The assignation of credit to be recognized will not exceed in any case the following:

 

    • Maximum of 6 ECTS by external academic practices

The recognition of 6 ECTS may be requested for a single academic internship of 180 hours (it is not possible to accumulate/add hours performed in different internships).

    According to the external practices regulation, the curricular practices made within the framework of an educational cooperation agreement have the same consideration than a subject, so, it will have assigned a responsible teacher, that will make the function of academic tutor, and will evaluate the practice with a numerical and descriptive qualifications from the reports of the student and the tutor of the collaborating entity and the final dossier. This qualification will be incorporated in the student's file and will count for all effects in its average grade.

    Only those practices that are directly related to the competences and knowledge to be acquired in the degree qualification will be considered. Therefore, the tasks of administrative support and support to teaching made at the University itself, as well as any other activity that is not included in the framework of the mentioned regulation, are excluded.

     

      • Maximum of 6 ECTS for university, cultural, sport,  of studies representation, solidarity and cooperating activities. Where are included a maximum of 3 ECTS/semester by recognition additional to the mobility.

    These recognitions will be incorporated to the student's academic transcript with a descriptive qualification "recognited" and without numerical qualification. In this sense, it will not count to effects of average grade.

     

    Procedure

    Request of credits enrolment by external academic practices made through an agreement of educational cooperation

    1. The student should request that the external academic practice to be made has the consideration of curricular practice before its beginning, in the moment of manage the agreement of educational cooperation corresponding in the Educational Cooperation Office ETSAB -Oficina de Cooperación Educativa ETSAB- through the corresponding form available in the field Internship.
    2. Once authorized the external academic practice as curricular practice, the Secretary of the School will enroll credits under the concept of intership -practicas en empresas- and the student must make the payment of 100% of credits according to the Public Price Decree of that academic year.
      The resignation or modification of the condition of curricular practice by the student won't neither give right to the annulment of the enrollment nor the exemption of the payment of the same, this will be qualified as NP or failed, according with the academic tutor valuation.
    3. Once finished the academic curricular practice, and from the agreement finishing date, the student will have a period of two months to submit in the Educational Cooperation Office the final dossier that will be evaluated by the academic tutor designated by the school.
    4. The Secretary of the School, once the practices have been evaluated will proceed to introduce the final qualification.

    Elective credits recognition request for cultural, sport, of studies representation, solidarity and cooperation activities

    • Each unit responsible for the organization of the activity according to the table Relación de actividades culturales, deportivas, solidarias, de cooperación y de representación estudiantil susceptibles de ser reconocidas como a créditos ECTS en los estudios de GRADO de la UPC will register the students that have made positively the activity. From this moment on, the student may check on his/her record of university extension activities, and through E-Secretaria, the set of activities that he/she has developed through his/her studies for organize his/her file between the set of elective credits that the student wants to study through elective subjects or through the recognition of this activity.
    • The activity may be recognited in the last degree enrollment, regardless of the course in which the student performed it. The only requirement will be that the student has enough missing elective credits for approving as for making the recognition. At this moment, the student will have available an option in e-Secretaria "Activities Recognition", To request the recognition of these credits and will be able to choose among all the carried out ones the ones the student want to be recognited in his/her transcript. This request will generate the corresponding payment, according the price fixed in the Decree of Public Prices of the academic course where the request is made, and its immediatly incorporation to the file once completed the corresponding payment.
    • A special case is the language learning course and the language accreditation exams. The students who have already been accredited in his/her third language may request in the Secretariat of the school the recognition of elective credits in these periods.
      • First semester: Between November 1st and 30th.
      • Second semester: Between March 1st and 31st.
      The Secretariat of the School will validate the documentation provided and the number of ECTS to be recognized and will introduce the recognition. Once formalized the corresponding payment, the number of ECTS will be recorded in the student file.
