Bachelor's Degree in Optics and Optometry

The profession of optometrist is a recognized healthcare profession under Law 44/2003, of November 21, on the Regulation of Healthcare Professions (BOE 22/11/2003).

The Bachelor's Degree in Optics and Optometry aims to train students to acquire the necessary competencies for the practice of the optometrist profession, in accordance with current legal regulations.

General Aspects of the Curriculum

Teaching is conducted in both Catalan and Spanish, thus, mastery of both languages is essential.

The curriculum for the Bachelor's Degree in Optics and Optometry is an official degree adapted to the EHEA in the field of Health Sciences.

Obtaining the degree provides the necessary competencies for the practice of the optometrist profession, regulated by Order CIN/727/2009, of March 18, which establishes the requirements for the verification of official university degrees enabling the exercise of the profession of Optometrist.

The curriculum consists of 240 ECTS credits (1 credit = 25 hours of student dedication, including class attendance, study, group work, assessment, etc.). Its composition is as follows:

  • 66 ECTS credits of basic subjects.
  • 132 ECTS credits of compulsory subjects.
  • 18 ECTS credits of external internships.
  • 18 ECTS credits of elective subjects.
  • 6 ECTS credits of Final Degree Project.
