Nano-enabled hydrogels for ocular applications
Hydrogel containing functional and structural hybrid nanoparticles (NPs) will be generated for ocular applications.
Objectius
Literature research on the techniques used to characterize the bulk properties and the added functionalities of the developed NPs. Literature research on the composition of the coatings for long stability and sustained release of functional NPs. Preparation and functionalization of hybrid NPs and further inclusion into hydrogels matrix. NPs characterization by dynamic light scattering, nanoparticle tracking analysis, Z-potential evaluation and SEM or TEM microscopy. In vitro assessment of the NPs bioactivity and their compatibility to human cells. Evaluation of the hydrogel bioactivities, stability and efficiency for their final application
Tasques a realitzar / Característiques
The student will learn the normal work in a research laboratory from the idea development until the proof of concept is released and will be guided to develop his/her own critical thinking and problem solving. The student will learn the operational use of several techniques for NPs and hydrogel preparation, functionalization, characterization and coating on medical devices. The applicant will have the chance to be included in a scientific peer-reviewed publication according to his/her contribution.
